Frostburg Lose on the Road at St. Mary’s College

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Frostburg State women's field hockey team fell on the road Sunday afternoon to the St. Mary's Seahawks by a final score of 2-0.
 
The loss puts FSU at 0-2 on the season while the Seahawks move to 2-0.
 
The Bobcats drove down the field to begin the game winning a penalty corner that was taking by senior Brooke Lafayette. FSU were turned away be the Seahawk defense. St. Mary's controlled the rest of the quarter recording five shots.
 
The first goal of the game for the Seahawks came at the 23:10 mark of the first half. Frostburg gained another opportunity at the penalty corner with a minute and a half left in the second quarter but were unable to convert and went into halftime down 1-0.
 
The second goal of the day by the hosts came a minute into the second half of play to put FSU down 2-0. At the 40:58 mark, sophomore Madison Manalansan came up with a save to keep the Bobcats deficit at two. Two minutes later, Manalansan recorded another save to keep Frostburg in the game going into the final quarter of play.
 
Frostburg gave it their all in the fourth quarter outshooting the Seahawks with two shots on goal from juniors Rylee Johnson and Taylor Hackett as well as earning two penalty corners, but it would not be enough as the Seahawks hung on to win the game 2-0.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Sunday, March 28 as they travel to play the Mercyhurst Lakers. Game time is set for 3:00 pm. For more information go to www.frostburgsports.com.
