Frostburg Softball Drops Two Games at Chowan

Murfreesboro, N.C.  – The Frostburg State softball team drops both ends of a double header at Chowan. The first game ended 4-1 and the second game at 5-3. The Bobcats are now 0-3 on the year while the Hawks move to 5-7-1.

First-Year Sydney Theobald started in the circle for the Bobcats in the opener of the Sunday double header against Chowan.  Frostburg started the bottom of the first off by getting two of the first three batters out. Chowan was then able to load the basses before Frostburg got through the inning unscathed.

Sophomore Brianna Powell led the second off for the Bobcats with a double to left center. Powell was then able to advance to third on a ground out by Senior Taylor McCarty. Powell scored the first run of the game and year for FSU on a fly out RBI by senior Sam Carver.  FSU capped off the second by facing the minimum.

After giving up three runs in the third inning the Bobcats again faced the minimum by getting a double play to end the inning.  The Bobcats surrendered one more run to the Hawks in the sixth before the game ended 4-1.

In the second game the Bobcats jumped out an early lead when first-year Katie Ernst knocked in both Powell and Carver. The Hawks were able to add three runs of their own in the first to make the score 3-2. In the second senior Kat Treff doubled to right center but was stranded on the basepath along with Powell. Senior Emily Talbert found a groove in the bottom of the second with a three up, three down inning.

Frostburg was able to tie the game up in the fourth inning on a single down the line from junior Kennadie Batchelor that scored Powell. The fourth inning saw two pitching changes for the Bobcats. Theobald replaced Talbert and after facing three batters she was then relieved by Leonard.

The Hawks were able to add another run in the fifth before Leonard recorded her second strikeout of the game. FSU threatened again in the sixth inning with a leadoff walk before getting doubled up on a ground ball. Carver had her second hit of the game with a single through the right side. The game ended with a score of 5-3 in favor of the Hawks.

The Bobcats play again March 13th at Salem University. Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. For up-to-date information, or to watch the game or follow live stats, go to www.frostburgsports.com.
