WHEELING, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team lost 89-85 on the road in a hard-fought battle to the Wheeling Cardinals Wednesday evening. Junior Agyei Edwards led the Bobcats with 33 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

The loss drops Frostburg to 3-8 on the season while Wheeling moves to 3-8.

Senior Jihar Williams nailed two three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give the Bobcats a six-point lead at 16-10. Junior Agyei Edwards then put FSU up 19-10 with a three-point play with 12:50 left in the first half.

A three-pointer from graduate Canaan Bartley put the Bobcats up 24-15. A Bartley jumper at 10:15 gave Frostburg a 26-17 lead. Later in the half, a three-pointer from Edwards put the Bobcats up five 35-30 with 5:18 left. Senior Sean Patterson came up big with a layup before being fouled and sent to the line where he converted the free throw to give FSU a six-point lead 38-32. Wheeling fought back towards the end of the first half before a three-pointer from Edwards and sophomore Jaylon Johnson had the Bobcats on top 44-41 going into halftime.

Frostburg had a good start to the second half outscoring the Cardinals 12-10 in the first five minutes to keep their lead at 56-51. Edwards hit another three-pointer and followed it up on the next possession with a jump shot making it 63-57.

Both teams continued to exchange blows with each other as the second half played out. Patterson converted layups on back-to-back possessions for FSU to keep their lead at 74-68 with eight minutes remaining. The Cardinals fought back to tie the score 77-77 from a jumper from Jordan Reid with 5:47 to play in the game.

Back-to-back layups from Johnson put the Bobcats up 81-78 with five minutes to go. Wheeling retook the lead with another jump shot from Reid to put the Cardinals up two 83-81 with four minutes left. Two free-throws from Edwards had the Bobcats down one at 84-83 with two minutes in the game. Senior Bo Schene hit a layup with 1:20 remaining but it would not be enough as Frostburg lost 89-85.

Patterson ended the night with 15 points shooting six-of-nine with four rebounds and an assist while Bartley finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. Johnson recorded nine points with six rebounds and two assists for the Bobcats
