Bobcats fall at Home Against Golden Eagles

Frostburg, Md.- The Frostburg State women's basketball team took on the University of Charleston (WV) Wednesday evening, falling by a final score of 68-55.

In the first quarter the Bobcats got things started early with a superb back door assist from junior Ciara Thomas to junior Arianna Briggs-Hall. In a back-and-forth first quarter the Golden Eagles tried to catch up but it wouldn't be enough as the Bobcats capitalized with a 21-18 lead entering the second.

In the second, the Bobcats gave up an 10-0 run to start the quarter and didn't find a single bucket until 4 minutes had passed in the quarter. Junior Maggie Sharp entered the game and provided a spark behind the three point line ending the run for the Golden Eagles. After a couple of costly turnovers by Charleston (WV) sophomore Rhiana Hall and Maggie Sharp hit a pair of three pointers putting the Bobcats on top 37-35 at the half.

The third quarter consisted of massive run for Charleston (WV) behind staggering three pointers from Dakota Reeves and crucial buckets in the paint from Clarrissa Francis. Maggie Sharp put in another three pointer and was joined by senior Morgan Dombroski in that category. But it just wasn't enough to keep pace with the Golden Eagles in the third as they stormed out to a 61-53 lead.

Since the begging of the fourth Charleston (WV) busted open a 20 point lead from a barrage of three pointers. The Bobcats tried to keep pace and showed several flashes on the offensive end but couldn't close the margin as the Bobcats ended up losing to the Golden Eagles 81-63.

Rhiana Hall lead the team with a season high 12 point performance contributing in key moments to keep the Bobcats in it in the first and second quarter. Morgan Dombroksi and senior Shelby Funchess both also contributed 11 points each in the loss.

The Bobcats now have a record of 2-6 while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-4. Frostburg State will be back in action on Wednesday, December 8 at 5:30 PM when they face nationally ranked Glenville State in Bobcat Arena. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
