BUCKHANNON, W. Va.- Frostburg State Women's Soccer fell on the road 1-0 to West Virginia State, as an early goal proved to be the difference in the game.
Â
Just two minutes in, Karem Rodrigues was played through by Fran Soares-Cupertino and finished into the far corner for the early Yellow Jacket lead.
Â
Frostburg would come right back, as freshman Cat Smith forced Laura Galindo into a save, as the Bobcats dominated possession and shots for much of the half. Smith had a number of shots, joined by sophomore Lela Clark and freshman Keely Knotts in shots on goal. FSU came closest on a shot from sophomore Caroline Burton that agonizingly hit the post, but despite the pressure Frostburg went into the half down one goal.
Â
Frostburg got out to a quick start in the second half, as freshman Mackenzie Alonso forced another save, followed by shots on goal from senior Audra Curtin and another from Burton. The Bobcats would get another four shots on target trying to find the equalizer, but the WVSU defense stood firm and kept FSU at bay for the 1-0 win.
Â
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 11-5-1 on the year, while West Virginia State improves to 11-5-1. FSU will play their final regular season match at home for senior day against Fairmont State on Saturday, November 6 with kick-off set for 5 p.m. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
