FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team hosted Shepherd, Davis & Elkins, and Pitt-Johnstown for the Jim Crawley Conference Challenge on Friday evening in Bobcat Arena. Frostburg dropped their season opener to the Mountain Cats from Pitt-Johnstown 60-55.

The Bobcats started the scoring on their season with two made free throws from junior Maggie Sharp. Frostburg made a living at the charity stripe, making 11 of 12 attempts. Sharp added four at the end of the quarter, getting FSU to a 13-10 lead.

Junior Arianna Briggs-Hall had the first bucket of the second quarter with a layup that stretched the lead to five. The first triple of the game was hit by sophomore Brenae Ford. The Mountain Cats scored nine unanswered points to take the halftime lead 27-23.

The third quarter started just like the second, with UPJ scoring another nine unanswered points to add on to their lead. A made jump shot from junior Ciara Thomas got the deficit under ten. The Bobcats ended the quarter with the last two scores on a free throw from Briggs-Hall that was followed up by a layup from Sharp. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 46-35 UPJ.

The Bobcats came out in the fourth and began to cut into the lead. Senior Morgan Dombroski made two free throws to cut the lead to nine before sophomore Samiya Esema scored from the paint, making the score 51-44 UPJ.
