FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State football team picked up a home win against the UNC Pembroke Braves 51-21 at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday October 2.
The Bobcats had quite an offensive showing, racking up over 500 yards of total offense. FSU got the scoring started, with a 57 yard touchdown pass to senior Malik Morris to get the scoring opened at 7-0. The Braves would respond with a TD a few minutes later to tie it at 7-7, but once FSU got the ball back senior Gavin Lavat rushed in from one yard out to put the Bobcats back up 14-7.
Moving into the 2nd quarter, UNCP would score once again to tie the game at 14-14, but that would be the last of the scoring for the Braves until the final few minutes of the game. FSU would go on to score 30 unanswered points, beginning with a 31 yard TD pass to graduate student Zae Giles, increasing the score to 21-14. Later, graduate student Kyle Belack would catch an 11 yard touchdown pass to increase the lead to 28-14.
Into the 2nd half, the FSU defense would force a safety for the first time since 2019 against Fairmont State, putting the Bobcats up 30-14.The scoring would disappear for the remainder of the third quarter and would return when Giles would score his second TD of the afternoon with a catch from 52 yards out, increasing the score to 37-14. Giles would once again catch a third TD from 32 yards out, making the score 44-14. Giles would finish the afternoon with a stat line of six receptions for 146 yards and three scores.
The final score for FSU would come from a five yard rush from junior Josh Maxwell, bringing the total points to 51. This was the first time since April 2021 vs Alderson Broaddus that the Bobcats reached the 50 point mark. After one final score from the Braves, the Bobcats clinched victory and sole possession of 1st place in the Mountain East Conference.
Redshirt freshman Graham Walker had a career day for FSU, racking up 279 passing yards with four touchdowns. The Bobcats will hit the road next week (October 9) and travel to Notre Dame (OH), which will kick off at 12 pm. The game will be streamed via radio on 99.5 WDZN with pregame beginning at 11:45 am.
