FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg Volleyball team dropped a tough match at the hands of the Wheeling Cardinals 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-18) on Friday night at Bobcat Arena.
In the first set, the Bobcats controlled the tempo, getting the set to 24-21, however five straight Wheeling points gave them the 26-24 victory. After trailing 4-1 to start the game, FSU came roaring back to take a 12-8 lead after a pair of kills by sophomore McKaily Thomson-Moran and a kill each for sophomore Hayley Delor and junior Jackie Sterenberg. Thomson-Moran later put another one past the Cardinals to stretch the Frostburg lead to 24-21, however five straight Wheeling points gave them the 26-24 victory
The second and third set went different, as Wheeling jumped out to early leads and did not relent. Frostburg wasn't able to recover to seal a victory in either set, with WU pushing the tempo.
Junior McKenna Houser and sophomore Jenna Gossard led a solid defensive effort for the Bobcats as they recorded 19 digs apiece. Delor dished out 32 assists and freshman AJ Thompson led the team with nine kills.
The loss moves the Bobcats to .500 in conference play (1-1) and an overall record of 4-10, while the win moves Wheeling to 11-4 and they stay undefeated in MEC play (2-0).
