KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team has been selected by the United Soccer Coaches as a Team Academic Award winner on Thursday for its performance in the classroom.
 
The Bobcats carried a 3.1 team GPA during the 2019-20 academic year and were one of 333 men's programs throughout collegiate soccer to earn the award.
 
Blake Geatz led the way for FSU with a 3.94 GPA. The Cumberland, Md. native graduated last May with his bachelor's degree in social science.
 
Current senior Chase Stottlemyer boasted the second highest cumulative GPA on the team at 3.82, while majoring in business administration.
 
Junior Joel Assal (business administration) carries a 3.66 GPA, senior Will Macomber majors in mathematics and has a 3.64 GPA, while senior Randy Putnam majors in business administration and maintains a 3.58 GPA.
 
The academic award is the first for the men's soccer program since the United Soccer Coaches began handing out the team academic award in 1996.
 
The Frostburg women's soccer program also earned the academic award and together, the Bobcat men's and women's teams are one of just 172 schools from across collegiate soccer to have both of their teams recognized.
