Women’s Lacrosse Wins Shootout With Albion

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team engaged in a high-scoring affair with Albion College, coming away with a 25-21 victory.
 
Nine different Bobcats scored goals, including five with three or more goals and four with four or more tallies.
 
The Bobcats got off to their strongest start of the season, scoring the game's first seven goals in 10:02. First-year attacker Cammie Schniedwind set the tone by scoring FSU's first two goals of the contest. Classmate Cam Sawyer put two goals of her own in between the pipes during the 7-0 run.
 
Albion battled back after trailing by as many as 8-1 with 18:31 to play in the first half. The Britons scored the next five goals to slice the deficit to two at the 11:31 mark of the half, and eventually tying the game with 6:41 to play in the first 30 minutes of play.  Albion's Chrystelle Lopez chipped in on half of the visiting team's scores in the first half, tallying four goals with an assist.
 
Frostburg never trailed despite squandering a seven-goal lead in the first half, taking a two-goal advantage into the halftime break. Junior midfielder Summer Cavey scored three goals and added an assist before the halftime break commenced.
 
The Bobcats were able to jump out with two quick goals in the first two minutes to cushion their lead to three and four respectively. The visiting team could not get closer than the three-goal deficit for the remainder of the game.
 
First-year attacker Lilly Stephens came alive in the second half, scoring five of her team-leading six goals in the latter half of the game. Schniedwind had a team-high eight points thanks to four goals and four assists, while Cavey finished with four goals and three assists, junior attacker Stephanie King recorded a quartet of goals, and first-year attacker Cam Sawyer adding three goals and two assists. Junior attacker Maggie Roszko added a pair of goals as well.
 
In net, junior Teresa Stabler earned the starting nod and made 11 saves in the first half with a .524 save percentage. Senior Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla made four saves in the second half.
 
As a team, Frostburg outshot Albion 44-42 despite having a slight 36-34 disadvantage in shots on goal. The Bobcats had four free-position opportunities resulting in two goals from King and Stephens respectively. The Bobcats also went 15-of-20 on clear attempts and caused nine Briton turnovers.
