Frostburg drops game against St. Thomas Aquinas

CARY, N. C. – The Frostburg State baseball team dropped their game against St. Thomas Aquinas College Friday night. The Bobcats lost a back-and-forth affair, 7-2 behind junior Bryce Jackson's 2-for-3 game with a home run and senior Colby Lee tossing six innings allowing only five hits and striking out seven.

The loss moves FSU to 3-7 overall while St. Thomas Aquinas moves on to 4-3 on the season.

The game started with little offense as the Trojans fanned five FSU batters before the fourth inning. The offense got started with Jackson's home run over the right field wall. The long ball was Jackson's first of the season and as a Bobcat.

The Trojans responded in the bottom of the third inning when a one-out double got things started. St. Thomas Aquinas scored off of an error by Frostburg knotting the game at one after three innings.

The Bobcats fourth inning started off with a single from first-year AJ Campbell. After a strikeout, Campbell made his way to third after a Trojan error. Junior Tre D'Amico stepped to the plate and lofted a high fly ball into center, scoring Campbell to give FSU the lead at 2-1.

St. Thomas Aquinas responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning. A wild pitch brought home to tying run with less than two outs. Lee got the next two hitters out by popping one to left field and striking out the other.

In the top of the seventh, the Bobcats almost broke through. A one-out single from Jackson got FSU on the base path. Roell then flew out to right field bringing up Campbell. Campbell roped a line drive into right field destined for extra bases. Jackson came flying around third base headed for the plate. The throw came in from right field and was darted after the cutoff to nab the Bobcat at the plate.

The Trojans rattled off four runs in response and took a 6-2 lead into the eighth inning. St. Thomas Aquinas scored one more to make the eventual final, 7-2.
Sophomore Nick Benitez went 1-for-3 with a single while Campbell ended 2-for-4 with a double.
