FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Graduate Victoria Diggs scored 33 and sophomore Megan Dombroski added 20 as the Frostburg women's basketball team closed the 2019-20 season with a 79-70 win over Fairmont State.
The Bobcats close out their season at 6-22 overall and 5-17 in conference. The Falcons finished out at 15-12 overall and 12-9 in conference.
The game opened up with a three-pointer from Diggs assisted by sophomore Anhai Allen, and then quickly followed up with a layup from senior Amanda Emory for a 5-5 score. The Bobcats came out with an offensive burst as Diggs hit two three-pointers and senior Sydney Stotler tallied a layup for a 15-8 lead halfway through the first quarter. Dombroski and first-years Ariana Briggs-Hall and Ciara Thomas closed out the quarter with each getting on the stat sheet bringing the Bobcat lead to 23-10.
Frostburg kept the offense going as Stotler came out and hit a layup to open the second quarter. Diggs continued her hot streak and hit a three-pointer at 4:56 bringing the score to 30-22. Thomas and Dombroski added eight points combined late in the second quarter. Dombroski would close out the half with two good free throws giving the Bobcats a seven point lead at 40-33.
Diggs was fouled in the second half attempting a three but then hit all three free throws for a 45-38 lead. Dombroski hit a jumper at 6:12 to inflate the Bobcat lead to 10, 49-39. A layup by Allen would keep the momentum going, along with Stotler converting on free throws for a 56-42 lead. The quarter finished out with Diggs hitting another three free throws to give the Bobcats a 63-54 lead.
The scoring gap was closed as the fourth quarter opened with Fairmont State going on a run to bring the score 65-60. The Bobcats would respond with a jumper from Thomas at 5:53 and then again at 3:08 from Dombroski. Through a span of two minutes neither team would tally any points but the scoring drought was broken when Diggs hit another two free throws for a 73-68 score. Diggs would go on to hit six more free throws for a final score of 79-70.
