Bobcats Drop Road Game At IUP

INDIANA, Pa. - Frostburg first-year Emily Hughes scored her first career goal and senior keeper Sierra Smizer posted another impressive effort in goal as the Bobcats suffered a 5-1 defeat at Indiana (Pa.), Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats settle at 0-2 on the season with the road defeat, while the Crimson Hawks open their fall campaign at 1-0 following two goals in each of the first two quarters.

IUP increased its lead to 5-0 with a goal in the third quarter before Hughes put the Bobcats on the board just over a minute into the fourth quarter.

Senior Logan Gladden took a shot that found its way to Hughes, who deflected the ball into the goal. It was Gladden's second point of the season after scoring a goal in FSU's season-opener against St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday.

Blaise Cugini led the Hawks with two goals and an assist, all coming in the opening half of action. Julia Davis scored the final tally for the hosts at 43:30.

Smizer registsred 18 saves in the loss, her second highest single-game effort of her Frostburg career. She notched a career-best 25 saves last year against nationally-ranked Salisbury. Smizer finished the afternoon with nine saves in the first half, eight saves in the third quarter and one in the fourth.

IUP outshot the Bobcats 29-2 and the hosts were awarded 12 penalty corners.

Frostburg returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Slippery Rock at 4:00 pm.
