FROSTBURG, Md. - On Friday afternoon the Frostburg State field hockey team fell against the Mansfield Mounties, 6-0. The Bobcats now sit at 0-9 overall on the season.
Mansfield got on the board just 2:18 into the contest when Kalin Duke collected her own saved shot and pushed her second attempt past the Bobcat defense for a 1-0 cushion.
At 13:04, Duke scored for the second time when a penalty corner was handled by Mikaila Chakon, who took a shot from the left side that was redirected into the net by Duke.
The Mountaineers scored for the third time in the opening half, again off a penalty corner as Duke knocked the ball in play from the end line to Saramae Radel, who's shot bounced along the ground and past Frostburg keeper Sierra Smizer.
Mansfield tacked on its fourth and final goal of the opening half when Meghan Griffin scored on a long shot from the left side of the net from Cailtin Beauduy with 23 seconds left in the second quarter.
Just before Griffin's score, Manfield's Dana Evans was awarded a penalty stroke at 28:51 that Smizer denied with a diving save to the right.
The second half opened with three shots from Mansfield all denied by first-year goalkeeper Madison Manalansan. The Bobcats responded with a shot by junior Gabby Rachuba in the 40th minute that sailed wide of the net.
Frostburg tallied their first corner of the game at 43:41 where senior Logan Gladden deflected a shot from sophomore Taylor Hackett but Mansfield's Madison Wilinsky stopped the shot with a defensive save.
The fourth quarter resulted in two more Mounties goals for a 6-0 score and five saves from Manalansan.
Smizer finished the day with 13 saves while Manalansan registered eight in her second collegiate appearance.
The Bobcats return to action on Sunday at Bobcat Stadium for an 11 am start against Lindenwood.
