Tawney Takes CAC Hammer Title

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Junior Keirstin Tawney captured the hammer throw title as the Frostburg women's track & field team sits in eighth place following the first night of the 2019 CAC Outdoor Championships at Christopher Newport University.

FSU totaled 16 points through the first five scoring events backed by Tawney's win, which earned the Bobcats 10 points.

On her second throw of the event, Tawney launched the hammer 46.17 meters (151ft. 6in.) breaking her own school record she set two weeks ago while landing All-CAC First Team honors. It's her second win in the hammer in the last three meets.

Senior Holly Van Wie finished two spots behind Tawney with third place in the hammer (44.72 meters/146ft. 9in.), just one place outside All-CAC honors. Van Wie's third-place showing earned the team's other six points on the night. She also finished in 14th in the shot put in 9.83 meters (32ft. 3in.).

First-year Amy Trembly posted a top-10 finish in the pole vault when she vaulted her way to ninth at 2.52 meters (8ft. 3.25in.).
