FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State softball team closed out its CAC regular-season on Monday with a twinbill against Salisbury and the Bobcats have earned the fifth seed in the league tournament that starts on Saturday.
For the second-straight season, the CAC Tournament will be a pod system at the two top teams in the standings as top seed Mary Washington and second seed and ninth-ranked Christopher Newport will host the opening rounds.
In Fredericksburg, Va., the Eagles will host No. 4 York (Pa.) and No. 6 Southern Virginia. UMW will meet No. 6 Southern Virginia in the opening game at noon on Friday.
In Newport News, Va., the Captains will welcome No. 3 Salisbury and No. 5 Frostburg to Captains Park.
The winners of each of the pods will advance to a best-of-three championship series May 3-4 at the field of the highest remaining seed.
The Bobcats (16-18, 5-7 CAC) will travel to second-seeded and ninth-ranked Christopher Newport for the first game on Saturday at noon. Win or lose, the Bobcats will play their second game of the tournament on Saturday at 2:00 pm against fourth-seeded Salisbury directly following the CNU matchup.
Frostburg dropped both its double headers with CNU and Salisbury and the Bobcats are making their eighth-consecutive trip to the CACs.
