Bobcats Roll In Home CAC Victory

FROSTBURG, Md. – The sophomore tandem of Summer Cavey and Stephanie King each finished with eight points to power Frostburg to a 22-15 CAC win over Southern Virginia, Tuesday afternoon.
 
The win is the first for the Bobcats in league action this year and pushes their record to 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
 
Cavey scored three goals and handed out five assists, while King scored six times and added two assists. Sophomore Maggie Roszko contributed two goals and five assists and classmate Lindsay Kohlmann scored three times and handed out two assists.
 
Kohlmann found King for two early goals and Roszko handed out two assists as Frostburg built its lead to 6-2 just over eight minutes into action.
 
Roszko scored at 20:01 and Kohlmann followed with back-to-back tallies as FSU led 11-4 at 16:03. The Bobcats later closed the half with three-straight goals for a 15-8 lead at intermission.
 
Southern Virginia (8-7, 0-5) rallied early in the second stanza with four-straight goals to narrow its deficit to 15-12 with 14:11 showing on the clock.
 
Frostburg closed the door on any comeback attempt by rattling off the next six goals for the win. Cavey and Roszko scored back-to-back man-down goals and Roszko added two assists to close the 6-0 scoring run.
 
Cavey connected with King for the Bobcats' final goal with 3:51 to play.
 
Frostburg outshot SVU 37-32 and FSU was 17-of-25 on clear attempts. The hosts also posted 23 draw controls as junior Molly Biggers led the way with seven and Kohlmann contributed six.
 
Bobcat senior keeper Abigail McClure posted 10 saves in the win.
 
The Knights were led in scoring by Caitriona Knowles with six goals and one assist.
 
FSU returns to action this Saturday when it hosts St. Mary's at 1:00 pm for senior day.
