Women’s Lacrosse drop home game vs Misericordia

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team lost to Misericordia University at Bobcat Stadium Saturday afternoon by a score of 22-11. Frostburg was led by sophomore Stephanie King who had 6 goals and 7 total points in the game.

The loss moves FSU to 2-8 on the season, while Misericordia improves to a 5-5 overall record.

Misericordia started things offensively with a goal from junior Amy Roth in the first three minutes of the game. Two minutes, later the Cougars had a one on one opportunity with senior goalie Abby McClure making a crucial stop in frame. FSU built off that momentum by scoring in a free position opportunity off the stick of King.

An acrobatic run from junior Molly Biggers gave the Bobcats a 2-1 advantage. The Cougars responded with one of their own to knot the game at two apiece. With 20:35 to go in the first half, McClure made another close range save by flipping her stick to cause a deflection.

MU went on a six to nothing run to grab an 8-2 advantage before King found some space off the pass from sophomore Summer Cavey. King then scored again off a free position opportunity to make the score 9-4 Cougars. The first half concluded with a score of 10-5, MU in front.

The second half started with a goal off an individual effort from MU senior Kristen Ritter to extend the Cougars lead. Bobcats sophomore Lindsay Kohlmann was fouled deep in Misericordia territory, which allowed her to score on a free position opportunity.

Misericordia went on a 6-0 run before Summer Cavey scored on a sprint across the face of the goal, 18-7 MU. Summer Cavey then dropped a shot over the goalie with 14:58 to go in the game the Bobcats added to their run with a shot and goal by King. King then double-dipped and scored again adding to her total to cut the deficit to 18-10.

Kohlmann took advantage of a free position opportunity, dishing a pass off to King who drilled the wrist shot. MU responded with back-to-back goals making the game 20-11, Cougars.  Misericordia added two more to finish the Bobcat comeback.
