CARLISLE, Pa. – The Frostburg softball team posted a split in a non-league doubleheader at Dickinson on Tuesday evening after winning game one, 3-1 in eight innings, and dropping game two, 1-0.
The Bobcats settle at 10-8 overall, while the Red Devils are now 6-8 on the spring.
Game One
Frostburg plated two runs in the top of the eighth inning to grab a win from the Red Devils in game one.
Sophomore Claire Hanlon singled home senior Olivia Ford for the go-ahead run in the eighth for a 2-1 lead and sophomore Taylor McCarty plated Hanlon with a sacrifice fly to set the final run total at 3-1.
Dickinson's Hannah Brenner scored the game's first run in the second frame when she tripled to center field and scored Paige Hahn.
FSU answered with a first-year Amber Keene home run in the fourth.
Hanlon later singled home Ford and advanced to second on the play. She stole third and scored on McCarty's sacrifice fly.
Frostburg sophomore Emily Moll got three ground outs in the home half of the eighth for the win. The victory was her third of the season as she tossed all 8.0 innings with one strikeout, while scattering just four hits.
Game Two
Dickinson scored the game's only run in the fifth inning for the 1-0 win as Natalie Krzywiec scored on an error by the Bobcat infield.
Frostburg outhit the hosts 5-3 and the Bobcats collected two hits in the first frame and led off the seventh frame with a triple from sophomore Aliyah Ramey.
However, FSU couldn't score any runs despite junior starter Katelyn Mehrling tossing all six innings in the circle and allowed just one run, zero earned on three hits with three strike outs.
Both Ford and Keene singled and doubled, respectively in the first frame, while Mehrling singled in the second. In the third, Keene singled with two outs but couldn't score.
Frostburg returns to action on Sunday when its hosts Salem International at 1:00 pm.
