Bobcats Win 10th Straight

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Frostburg State baseball team won its 10th-straight contest, defeating Gallaudet, 12-7 on the road Wednesday afternoon. The game ended in the eighth inning, due to darkness.

Bobcat junior first baseman Ryan Roell had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and five RBI, while also crossing the plate three times. He plated the first run of the ballgame with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first.

FSU then scored the game's next seven runs over the next six innings. The Bobcats scored three runs in the fifth inning, one on a single from junior Jesse Hodge and two more crossed the plate on a single from junior Mitch Fyffe two batters later.

The Bobcats added a run in the sixth, and Roell mashed a three-run homer in the top of the seventh, extending the Bobcat lead to 8-0. The home run was Roell's fourth of the year in the team's first 10 games.

The Bison bats got hot in the home half of the seventh inning, as they rattled off six runs to cut their deficit to 8-6.

The Bobcats got four runs back in the top of the eighth inning however, highlighted by RBI singles from Roell and senior Nick Fuhrmann, giving FSU a 12-6 lead.

Gallaudet scored one more in its half of the eighth inning before the game was called due to darkness, giving Frostburg the 12-7 victory. The Bobcats' 10-0 start to the season is the team's best start since the Division III World Series team of 2015, when Frostburg won its first 12 contests.

First-year pitcher Nathan Klasmeyer earned his first win of the season, pitching 2.0 innings, striking out three and not allowing a walk. The Bobcats had seven pitchers toe the rubber today, totaling six strikeouts.

The Bobcats will begin conference play this upcoming weekend, as they travel to Newport News, Virginia to take on Christopher Newport. Game one of Saturday's scheduled doubleheader will take place at 12:00 p.m. For up-to-date game information, including live stats, visit frostburgsports.com.
