Frostburg Scoots To First Win

SALEM, Va. – Sophomore Taylor McCarty smacked a two-run home run in the third inning and junior Katelyn Mehrling picked up the victory in the circle as Frostburg downed Pitt-Bradford on Friday for a 6-3 win.

The Bobcats improve to 1-3 on the season with the win on the first day of the VCU Mountain Mash Tournament.

Sophomore Aliyah Ramey got the FSU offense rolling with a two-run double to right center in the bottom of the third frame. Sophomore Kat Treff walked and senior Olivia Ford posted an infield single before Ramey's double plated both to tie the game at 2-2.

Keene then singled home Ramsey for a 3-2 lead and McCarty capped the five-run third with a home run to center that scored Mehrling.

The Panthers (0-1) doubled home a run in the top of the fourth to narrow their gap to 5-3.

FSU scored its final run when Ford smacked an infield single that eventually scored sophomore Carly Wirth following a failed attempt to get her at third base.

The win is the first for Mehrling on the season, while McCarty picks up the save following two innings of scoreless work. Mehrling scattered 10 hits and allowed just two earned runs in five innings pitched.

Ford finished the day with three hits, while both Ramey and McCarty each drove in two.

FSU returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the tournament. The Bobcats will serve as the home team against Emory & Henry at 2:00 pm, while Frostburg will also serve as the home team against Susquehanna at 4:00 pm.
