Bobcats Fall To Salisbury In OT

SALISBURY, Md. – The Frostburg men's basketball team opened an early lead over in-state rival Salisbury, but the Sea Gulls rallied for a 78-76 win in overtime, Tuesday night, in the 2019 CAC Tournament first round.
 
The Bobcats led by as many as 22 points in the first half and cap the season with a 10-16 overall record.
 
In the loss, Frostburg used a 24-7 run over a nine-minute span for a 36-17 lead with 6:09 left in the first half. Senior Edwin Cole kick started the run with a three-pointer at 15:07 and junior Terry Kenner connected on a three-pointer at 12:44 for a 10-point lead, 20-10.
 
Frostburg junior Jordan Dawson converted a traditional three-point play at 6:35 as FSU's lead ballooned to 21, 36-15. Junior Daniel Alexander hit two late free throws as Frostburg led 46-26 at the break.
 
In the second half, the Gulls slowly narrowed the deficit until they knotted the contest at 70 with 16 seconds to play.
 
Alexander kept the lead at 16 for Frostburg with two free throws at 12:50, but Salisbury cut its deficit to single digits just two minutes later.
 
The Seas Gulls continued the push and cut the deficit to two with 1:45 to play and they led by one with 16 seconds to go following two free throws from Mike Ward. Junior Lawrence Pettis hit a free throw late in the half to knot things at 71 and sent the contest in OT.
 
The Gulls led throughout the extra frame and Frostburg cut the deficit to two at the final horn. Junior Demetrich Williams hit a free throw with 40 seconds left and junior Jordan Dawson hit a layup at 00:35 to pull the Bobcats within two, 78-76.
 
The Bobcats were led in scoring by Cole, who capped his Frostburg career with 25 points and a career-best 19 rebounds. Alexander added 22 points and seven rebounds. Dawson and junior Terry Kenner scored 13 and 10, respectively.
 
Salisbury was led by Ward with 22 points, while Lucas Martin led the starters with 14 points. The Sea Gulls will travel to top seeded Christopher Newport for a semifinal round match on Thursday.
