FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team has secured the fifth seed in the Capital Athletic Conference 2018-19 men's basketball tournament. The Bobcats will travel to in-state rival and fourth-seeded Salisbury in the conference quarterfinals Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.
Frostburg State finished the regular season with a 10-15 record and a 6-8 mark in CAC play. The Bobcats are seeking their first CAC tournament victory since joining the league in the 2010-11 season.
During the 2018-19 campaign, Frostburg State and Salisbury split their season series with both teams winning on the road. The Bobcats topped then-ranked No. 24 Salisbury 97-86 on January 19, while the Sea Gulls emerged victorious 90-83 on Saturday. Tuesday's meeting marks the first time FSU and Salisbury have met in CAC postseason play.
In CAC play, the Bobcats ranked second in scoring offense at 77.7 points per game and first in field goals made per game (29.1). FSU led the conference with 5.4 blocks per league contest and finished second in total rebounds per game (39.4) and offensive rebounds per game (13.1).
Junior Daniel Alexander led the Bobcats with 17.7 points per game, good for third in the conference. He led the conference with 159 made field goals and ranked top 12 in the league in field goal percentage (47.2), rebounding (6.0) and steals (36).
Senior Edwin Cole is the CAC's leader in blocks (43) and the league's second-leading rebounder (9.2). He posted a scoring average of 15.0 points per game and registered his 1,000
th career point last week against York (Pa.).
Junior Lawrence Pettis led the conference in minutes (480) and assists (76) in league play.
Salisbury's men's basketball team posted the league's highest-scoring offense in league play at 82.0 points per game. The Sea Gulls also recorded top marks in steals per game (9.0), free throws per game (16.8-23.1).
Salisbury is led by senior Blair Davis (14.5 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.9 SPG) and sophomore Mike Ward (14.7 PPG, 3.1 RPG).
