Bobcat Softball Endures Narrow Loss To Shenandoah

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Frostburg softball team suffered a narrow 11-9 loss to Shenandoah in the final game of the Salem Invitational, Sunday.
 
The Bobcats slip to 0-3 with the loss, despite jumping out to a 7-0 lead against the Hornets (1-2).
 
Frostburg plated two runs in the first inning when sophomores Taylor McCarty and Sam Carver each singled home runs. FSU added five runs in the bottom of the second frame for the 7-0 cushion. Junior Claire Hanlon started the scoring outburst when she crossed home plate on a passed ball.
 
First-year Amber Keen singled home senior Olivia Ford and Carver singled home Keene for a 5-0 lead. Sophomores Carly Wirth and Kat Treff closed the inning with run producing singles for the 7-0 lead.
 
The two teams traded jabs in the third inning as Shenandoah scored twice and Carver drew a bases loaded walk that plated Keene.
 
SU then rattled off nine runs in the fourth frame for an 11-8 lead. Maryann Holden highlighted the inning for the Hornets with a three-run double.
 
Junior Gabby Sandy closed the game with a solo home run in the sixth to bring the final to 11-9.
 
Carver finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI, Keene was 2-for-3 with three runs, one RBI and two walks. Ford registered two hits and scored once.
 
Frostburg returns to action next weekend at the VCU Mountain Blast at Salem, Va.
