FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team recognized seniors Megan Kelly and Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla during the pregame festivities, but was defeated by Salisbury, 51-47 at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats struggled to score in the first half, putting up just 13 points in the game's first 20 minutes and trailed 23-13 at the intermission. Tirado-Viscalla led FSU with five points at the break while junior Amanda Emory had three points and six rebounds. Salisbury freshman Kylie Webb led her team with eight points while Kaylyn French had five points and five rebounds going into the halftime locker room.
The Bobcats fought back in the third quarter, as they outscored the Sea Gulls, 17-12 to cut their deficit to just five points. Junior Victoria Diggs had nine points in the quarter, sinking two baskets from beyond the arc while Emory added four points of her own.
Frostburg got to within three points six different times in the game's final quarter, but could never take the lead away from the Sea Gulls. With eight seconds remaining in the game, Diggs shot her fifth successful three pointer to bring the score to 49-47, but Salisbury managed to make two free throws and run out the clock, bringing the game to a 51-47 end.
Overall, Diggs finished with 18 points to lead the Bobcats. Tirado-Viscalla collected a season-high 10 points and Kelly finished her final game with seven points and four rebounds. Megan Konig led the Sea Gulls with 15 points and collected seven rebounds. Webb finished with 12 points.
The Bobcats (15-9, 7-7 CAC) finished the regular season tied for fourth in the conference, but due to tie-breaking scenarios, the team will be traveling to Mary Washington in the first round of the CAC Tournament.
