FROSTBURG, Md. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday afternoon their NCAA Division II Academic All-District II honorees and Frostburg senior midfielder Gwen Schemm was among the 13 student-athletes to receive a first-team award.
 
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa. Schemm boasts a perfect 4.0 and majors in both communications and psychology. A three-time CAC All-Academic honoree, Schemm was voted as the 2018-19 FSU Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and she serves as a Student Success Mentor, Writing Center Tutor and FSU Student-Alumni Ambassador.
 
Schemm is the editor of the school newspaper (The Bottom Line) and is an undergraduate teaching assistant in the psychology department. She is a member of three Honor Societies in english, communications and first-year students.
 
To be nominated for the All-District award, student-athletes must carry a 3.30 GPA and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games. The Central Intercollegiate, Mountain East and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conferences make up District II.
 
With her first-team award, Schemm will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-American and the awards will be announced in December.
 
Schemm has started 12 games in the midfield for the Bobcats this fall and has helped the team to a 6-10-1 overall record, including a 4-8 slate in the MEC. She has scored one goal and added two assists.
 
Frostburg closes out its 2019 regular season with a road trip to Fairmont State at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
