Field Hockey Falls At Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A third-quarter scoring spurt carried Pace University past Frostburg, 4-0 in Division II field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
 
The Setters improve to 6-12 with the win, while the Bobcats settle at 2-15 overall.
 
Pace scored three goals in the third quarter to earn the win. Danielle Merante scored just 57 seconds into the second half for a 1-0 lead and Pace tacked on two more goals in the third from Brianna Wassmer and Cienne Bosher.
 
Bosher scored the final goal of the game at 49:18 in the fourth quarter.
 
Following Merante's goal in the third, Abby Stucker attempted a shot for the hosts at 32:01, but the shot was cleared off the back line by Bobcat junior Brooke Lafayette for a defensive save, her team-leading third DS of the fall.
 
Senior keeper Sierra Smizer reached double-figures in saves with 15, stopping four shots in the second frame and seven in the final quarter.
 
Junior Gabby Rachuba led the way with three shots for the Bobcats, while senior Logan Gladden came off the bench to finish with two, including one on goal.
 
Pace led the Bobcats with a 24-5 edge in shots.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
