Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats Comeback Comes Up Short at Mansfield

MANSFIELD, PA. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team fell on the road Friday night to the Mansfield Mounties by a score of 62-53. The loss drops the Bobcats to 0-3 on the season, while Mansfield improves to 2-1.

Frostburg was able to keep the score close in the first quarter despite Mansfield connecting on five three-pointers. A balanced scoring output from the Bobcats, led by four points in the first 10 minutes from senior Amanda Emory, held FSU within six points entering the second quarter.

Frostburg State would come out firing in the second quarter, going on a 6-0 run to tie the score at 17-17. Defense ruled for the Bobcats to start the second stanza, as the Bobcats held the Mounties scoreless for nearly half the quarter, and also held them without a field goal until 3:06 left in the half. Mansfield would ramp up the offense late in the quarter to take a 28-23 lead into the locker room.

Mansfield opened up the third quarter on a 14-3 run that spanned just over four minutes to take a 42-26 lead. The Bobcats would eventually find themselves trailing 52-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

FSU showed no quit in the final quarter, as they went on a lengthy 15-2 run that spanned the first 7:58 of the fourth quarter to make the score 54-47. The run began with four straight points from sophomore Morgan Dombroski, followed by a made free-throw from Emory and a lay-in by junior Jada Holland. After a made jumper from Mansfield's Jasmine Hilton, graduate student Victoria Diggs would answer at the other end with a bucket of her own to make the score 54-41 with 3:40 left. Back-to-back baskets by Holland preceded a made jumper from sophomore Drew Dunathan to cap off the run that got the Bobcats back in the game. Despite the run, Mansfield hit key free-throws down the stretch to hold on for the nine-point victory.

Holland led the way for Frostburg State with 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting to go along with five rebounds. Emory dropped 11 points for the game and snatched seven boards as well.

The Bobcats take the court again on Wednesday, November 20 when they hit the road to take on Shepherd at 7:00 p.m.
