Football Drops Urbana on Homecoming

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State football team earned its sixth-consecutive win on Homecoming with a dominating 24-16 win over Urbana on Saturday.

The win is the fourth straight for the Bobcats and they improve to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in the MEC. Frostburg jumped out to a 24-0 lead early in the fourth when junior Gavin Lavat ran for a two-yard touchdown with 8:27 showing in regulation.
 
Urbana, which lost for the second-straight week after opening the season at 3-0, settles at 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the MEC.
 
The Frostburg defense nearly pitched a shutout as it held the Blue Knights to just 77 yards of offense through three quarters. Urbana scored two late touchdowns to narrow the final deficit to 24-16 and the Knights finished the afternoon with 231 yards in offense.
 
The Frostburg defense also limited Urbana to just 26 yards rushing on 24 carries, forced seven punts and picked off a pass midway through the third. Senior defensive back Michael Bell stepped in front of a Eddie Stockett pass and returned it 24 yards to the Urbana 20.
 
Two plays later, graduate quarterback Will Brunson connected with junior Lincoln Ikwubuo for a 17-yard TD toss that put the Bobcats ahead 14-0.
 
Brunson scored on Frostburg's opening drive as he pushed his way in from a yard out that capped a 75-yard, 14-play drive for an early 7-0 lead.
 
The score remained at 7-0 until Brunson found Ikwubuo for the TD in the third. Junior kicker Jeremy Harrison hit a 28-yard field goal early in the fourth and Lavat made it 24-0 with 8:27 showing on the clock.
 
Stockett tossed a pair of late TDs to Isaiah Young and Jesse Bray to narrow the final count to 24-16.
 
Brunson completed 14-of-26 passes for 214 yards with one touchdown through the air and one on the ground. Ikwubuo hauled in four passes for 76 yards and a score, while Lavat rushed for 124 yards on 24 carries with one touchdown.
 
Lavat entered the game ranked fourth in the MEC in rushing and with his effort against the Blue Knights he is now averaging 101 yards per game. Brunson's TD pass is his 10th this season.
 
Junior Walter Riley led the defensive effort with eight tackles, including 1.0 TFL. Senior Vincent Persichetti finished with seven tackles and two breakups.
 
Frostburg returns to action next Saturday at West Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm.
 
Notes: The win is 18th in the last 20 homes games for the Bobcats … FSU has now won eight-straight games in the month of October.
