FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg men's soccer team dropped the final game of the 2018 FSU Tournament 1-0 to Randolph in double overtime, Sunday at Bobcat Stadium.
Frostburg was whistled for a foul inside the 18 and the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick for the infraction with 5:14 left in the second OT. Randolph's Eynnar Claros converted the PK with a low shot towards the left corner of the net.
Both teams leave the opening weekend of the 2018 season with a 1-1 record. Randolph lost to DeSales, 3-2 on Saturday, while Frostburg shutout Saint Vincent in its opener 3-0.
Randolph outshot FSU on the afternoon 13-5 and Bobcat first-year keeper Joel Assal notched four saves.
Frostburg had its best chances of the game late in regulation.
Junior Haven Mackie had a left footed attempt from the ride side of the net saved by Austin Collier in the 77
th minute.
Inside the final three minutes, first-year Trevor Namie had a small break away after sneaking behind the Randolph defense. He knocked a pass out of the air with his chest and took a touch before taking a shot with just Collier in his way. However, a diving Collier turned away the shot to keep things at 0-0.
With just over one minute left in second period, senior Brett Basham lined up a header from the far post, but his attempt sailed wide.
Randolph attempted four shots in the first and second overtime frames before Claros' goal handed it the win.
Mackie, Assal and Basham each earned all-tournament honors for Frostburg after their stellar play in two games.
Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday with a road contest at No. 13 John Hopkins.
