FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg women's lacrosse season came to a close on Saturday night with a 16-4 setback to No. 1 ranked Salisbury on Senior Day.
The CAC's second-best scoring attack opened up a 12-0 cushion on Frostburg (5-10-1, 2-6) and used nearly the first 25 minutes to do so.
The Bobcats broke onto the scoreboard with 1:21 left in the first stanza when first-year Summer Cavey connected on a free-position shot to trim the score to 12-1 at halftime.
The hosts continued that momentum in the opening minutes of the second half as first-year Jara Matlick made the score 12-2 with another free-position tally just over five minutes into action.
Salisbury (15-1, 7-0) answered with back-to-back goals at 19:39 and 15:43 before Frostburg scored its second goal of the second half. Matlick found a streaking junior Morgan Cavey for her 54
th goal of the season and a 14-3 score.
The Sea Gulls again answered with two more goals before Morgan Cavey closed the game with a free position goal with 3:40 to play in regulation.
Morgan Cavey led the Bobcats on the evening with eight draw controls, while Frostburg sophomore Emalie Mayo stopped seven shots in just over 50 minutes of relief work.
Cavey finished the season with 55 goals, just one shy of tying of tying the single-season mark held by Laura Hemmings since the 1999 season.
Dana King led Salisbury with four goals and two assists, while Lydia McNulty contributed four goals.
The Bobcat coaching staff honored five seniors prior to the opening whistle; Tara Whitney, Jessica Hartley, Samantha Cataldo, Courntey Ridenour and Lachele Coates.
