ARLINGTON, Va. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-6 defeat to Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Marymount (Va.), Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-6-1 overall and 0-2 in league play, while Marymount improves to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the CAC.
Frostburg generated 15 shots for the game with only five attempts in the second half, whereas Marymount tallied 34 shots during the contest. Marymount sustained the draw controls for the game as they had 20 to the Bobcats four. Frostburg went 14-of-21 on clears, while the Saints were 13-of-14.
Junior Morgan Cavey found the net twice with one assist on four shots, while first-year Summer Cavey also added two goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Saints found the net first with 25:55 left in the first half as Bridgette Stacom scored off a free position shot. Ten seconds later, Marymount's Kellen Cannon scored an unassisted goal to gain a 2-0 advantage over Frostburg.
The Bobcats answered and tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from first-year Lindsay Kohlman (18:40) and Morgan Cavey with an assist credited to Kohlman at 17:56.
Frostburg took its only lead of the game (3-2) at 16:27 as Summer Cavey shot the ball past the Saint's goalie Holly Reik on an assist from Morgan Cavey.
The Bobcats then endured an 8-1 run from Marymount over the final 15:34 of the opening half. Kohlman found Biggers for a score at 13:04 as the Bobcats trailed 10-1 at the break.
The Saints opened the second half with three-straight goals before Summer Cavey scored her second goal of the day, this time at 16:50, off an assist from first-year Jara Matlick. The Bobcats final goal came at 15:33 on an unassisted score from Morgan Cavey cutting the Saint's lead to 14-6.
Sophomore Emalie Mayo was credited with the loss as she notched eight saves, with 17 goals surrendered.
Marymount's Stacom and Jessica Crew each scored a game-high five goals and added one assist.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday as they host CAC opponent Mary Washington at Bobcat Stadium set for 4:00 p.m.
