FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Morgan Cavey scored four goals and classmate Abigail McClure registered a career-high 17 saves as Frostburg endured a 19-8 loss at home on Saturday afternoon to Lynchburg.
The Hornets (1-4) rolled in the first half as they outscored the Bobcats (2-4-1) 12-2 behind a 26-3 advantage in shots.
Frostburg collected itself in the second half and scored six goals on eight shots. The Bobcats also registered 11 draw controls in the second half and finished 3-for-3 on the afternoon in free position shots.
Lynchburg opened the game with three-straight goals before junior Courtney Ridenour and first-year Jara Matlick scored for Frostburg as it pulled to within 4-2 midway through the first half.
The Hornets closed the opening period with eight-straight goals and opened the second half with the first goal for an 11-2 lead.
Morgan Cavey ended Lynchburg's run with three-consecutive goals that pulled the Bobcats to within 13-5.
The Hornets answered with four-straight goals for a 17-5 lead. Morgan Cavey (11:40), first-year Summer Cavey (9:30) and Matlick (4:12) closed out the scoring for the Bobcats.
Morgan Cavey's four goals pushed her total to 28 on the season. Meanwhile, McClure's 14 goals eclipsed her previous career-best of 11, set last year at Lynchburg.
Matlick finished with two goals, while Summer Cavey added one goal and one assist. Summer Cavey led the Bobcats with seven draw controls.
Eight different players scored for the Hornets and were led by Danielle Hook's four goals. Alicia Sandoval scored three times and added three assists.
Frostburg returns to the field on Monday when it faces Hope in Hilton Head, S.C. at 9:00 am.
