Bobcats Defeat Mt. Aloysius For 3-0 Start

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg women's basketball team closed the second day of the 2018 Jim Crawley Classic with a 72-46 victory over Mt. Aloysius, Sunday afternoon.
 
The win propels Frostburg to 3-0 on the young season with three dominating efforts. In those three victories, the Bobcats are outscoring their opponents by nearly 23 points and on Sunday FSU poured in 28 baskets and nine three-pointers against the Mounties.
 
Senior guard Megan Kelly grabbed classic MVP honors as she poured in 24 points, seven steals and four assists, while junior guard Victoria Diggs grabbed all-tournament honors behind 27 points, eight steals and five assists.
 
Diggs powered Frostburg against MTA with 17 points behind five three-pointers. She poured in 11 points in the second half as Frostburg led by as many as 29 points early in the fourth quarter.
 
Kelly finished Sunday afternoon with 11 points, sophomore Kayla Wilson added 10 points and seven rebounds, while junior Amanda Emory scored two points but pulled down 10 rebounds.
 
Frostburg posted season highs against the Mounties in baskets (28), three-pointers (9), steals (15), assists (21), points (72) and shooting percentage (.483).
 
The Bobcats never trailed in the game and opened action with a flurry as Kelly connected on two three-pointers and Diggs added another for a quick 9-0 lead just 2:05 into the first quarter.
 
First-year Anna Reese hit a layup late in the first as FSU led by 16, 21-5 after one. The second quarter brought more of the same for the Bobcats as they led by as many as 25 late in the quarter on Emory's only bucket of the contest.
 
Diggs hit a three-pointer at 2:09 in the third for a 58-29 cushion and she opened the fourth with a jumper for another 29-point lead, this time at 60-31.
 
Lea Sammarco earned all-tournament honors for Mt. Aloysius after leading the team with 15 points on Sunday with two rebounds and five three-pointers.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday at Chatham at 5:00 pm.
