Bobcats Fall in PK's to Mary Washington

After a scoreless 110-minutes Frostburg falls in a penalty shootout to Mary Washington

FREDRICKSBURG, Va. The Frostburg State Bobcats had its 2018 campaign come to a close Wednesday afternoon with shootout loss at No. 12 Mary Washington in the semifinal round of the 2018 CAC Tournament.
 
The Bobcats and Eagles battled for 110 minutes of soccer where Mary Washington triumphed in a shootout 4-2.
 
Frostburg State ends its season with a 7-8-4 record after falling to the Eagles (13-1-5) after a back and forth affair that ended in penalty kicks.
 
The Eagles will host the CAC championship game against the winner of Salisbury and St. Mary's on Saturday.
 
Late in the first half, first-year goalkeeper Joel Assal moved off his line to stop the Eagles best attacking chance of the half. The Mary Washington attacker's shot went by Assal, but found Punya Suleekul's foot for a clearance.
 
Frostburg had an opportunity off a set piece shortly after with a Willie Jefferson bicycle attempt missing its mark. The first half ended in a tie of 0-0 after eight shots from Mary Washington and three shots from FSU.
 
Early in the second half the Eagles were given a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Assal made the initial save and then two more directly after to keep the match at a tie. After a scoreless 90 minutes both teams headed for extra time.
 
After two scoreless extra time segments the match headed towards a penalty kick shootout. Senior Alferid Kemal started things off for FSU by drilling the first penalty kick. Mary Washington saved two shots and finished all of their chances. First-year defender Jose Rodriguez scored to give the Bobcats a final opportunity, but the Eagles converted a fourth-straight PK for the win.
 
The Eagles outshot Frostburg on the day 17-4. First-year Kaps Kapende finished the afternoon with two shots. While first-year Cameron Coates and sophomore Punya Saleekul added a shot as well. Assal tallied eight saves in the match
