WINCHESTER, Va. – The Frostburg State field hockey team endured a 3-0 setback at Shenandoah, Tuesday evening under the lights of Shentel Stadium.
The Hornets outshot Frostburg 17-1 on their way to a 13-4 overall record. Frostburg slips to 2-15 with the loss.
Junior keeper Sierra Smizer notched 16 saves in the loss, her third highest total of the season. She has also stopped 10 or more shots in three of the last four games.
The Hornets scored all three goals in the first half as Smizer kicked away 10 shots in the second stanza. Smizer made back-to-back saves in the 21
st minute off shots from Megan Stevens and Kayla Alderman.
In the second half, Smizer again notched back-to-back saves in the 53
rd minute off shots from Alderman.
SU's first goal came at 6:07 from Stevens, while Morgan Payne found the cage for the hosts second goal at 21:55. The Hornets rounded out the scoring when Natalie Fyock scored at 29:03.
Frostburg closes out its regular season on Thursday when it hosts York (Pa.) at 6:00 pm.
