Frostburg Women Collect Another CAC Win

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Four of five starters scored in double figures as the Frostburg women's basketball team earned an 80-68 league win over Penn State Harrisburg, Wednesday evening.
 
The victory evens the Bobcats' overall record at 10-10 and improves their CAC mark to 6-7.
 
The win is the second-straight for the women and completes the regular-season sweep of the Lions (6-14, 1-12). The win, coupled with a Southern Virginia loss to Marymount, vaults the Bobcats into sixth place in the league standings.
 
The ballgame featured 12 lead changes and two ties and Frostburg emerged with the win thanks to a strong fourth quarter.
 
Shanique Mattis hit a pair of three-pointers and a layup to keep the Lions in the game in the third quarter, but Frostburg started to take control when sophomore Victoria Diggs hit a layup with 44 seconds left for a 57-56 lead.
 
Sophomore Amanda Emory knocked down a three-pointer with two seconds remaining that gave the visitors a 60-56 lead after three quarters. Diggs' layup at 00:44 gave Frostburg the lead for good.
 
Junior Amber Downey hit one of two foul shots just past the midway point of the final frame as the Bobcats led by seven, 69-62.
 
At 2:17, Emory hit a layup for an eight-point cushion, 73-65, and Diggs was 6-for-6 down the stretch on foul shots to seal the 12-point win, 80-68.
 
Diggs finished the evening with a season-high 27 points behind four three-pointers and a perfect 9-of-9 effort at the free throw line. Diggs also registered five steals, four assists and eight rebounds.
 
Senior Adjowa Pinkrah and Emory finished second on the team with 12 points, while first-year Kayla Wilson added 10. Emory finished with a team-high nine rebounds, while Pinkrah matched Diggs with four three-pointers.
 
Despite the 12 lead changes, Frostburg led for a total of 31:20 and Pinkrah opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers. Diggs and Wilson closed the first period with three-pointers to help the Bobcats to a 22-18 lead after one.
 
A quick 5-0 spurt in the second handed Frostburg its largest lead prior to the fourth quarter as Wilson hit a layup at 6:58 for a 28-21 edge. The Lions rebounded for a 35-33 advantage with 40 seconds left but junior Megan Kelly hit a three-pointer with 27 seconds showing that gave Frostburg a 36-35 lead at intermission.
 
Tessa Dolce led PS Harrisburg with 22 points and nine rebounds. Janel Brown added 17, while Mattis totaled 13 after a strong third quarter.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Salisbury at 1:00 pm.
