Bobcat Men Use Strong Second Half To Drop #7 York (Pa.)

FROSTBURG, Md. – Five players scored in double figures and Frostburg connected on seven three-pointers in the second half in a 95-85 upset win over seventh-ranked York (Pa.), Wednesday.
 
The Bobcats improve to 8-10 overall and 6-5 in the league after connecting on a season-best 13 three-pointers, while shooting a season-high 54.0 percent (34-of-63) from the field.
 
Just after the clock ticked under 10 minutes in the second half, Frostburg knocked down four three-pointers on five possessions over a three-minute stretch.
 
That hot shooting from beyond the arc turned a three-point lead, 59-56, at 12:23 into a 12-point cushion with 7:01 left.
 
Senior Darren Campbell, who was a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range, connected on his final three of the ballgame with 4:37 left that gave the hosts an 84-68 lead.
 
Moments later, senior Dalton Gaus raced ahead of the York defense and flushed a two-handed dunk as Frostburg led 87-76.
 
Inside the final minute-and-a-half, Frostburg connected on seven foul shots and survived a barrage of shots and fouls from the Spartans for its second upset win over a top-15 team at home in two seasons.
 
Sophomore Lawrence Pettis, Jr. led all players with a career-high 29 points with eight assists and five three-pointers, while senior Darren Campbell finished with a season-high 23 points, with seven rebounds, six assists and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor.
 
While Campbell hit three three-pointers to help Frostburg build a 16-point lead in the second half, Pettis, Jr. hit four threes in the first half as Frostburg rallied to lead by eight, 42-34, after a Pettis three with 1:32 left in the first.
 
Frostburg carried a 44-41 lead into intermission.
 
Senior Tyler Michael added 12 points, six rebounds and four steals, while sophomore Daniel Alexander scored 11 and junior Edwin Cole had 10 points and seven boards.
 
The Bobcat bench outscored York's 31-14 behind Campbell's 23 points.
 
Matt Scamuffo led York with 21 points, while Jared Wagner added 16.
 
The York senior duo of Dalton Myers and Blake Reich entered the matchup with Frostburg averaging a combined 36.1 points per game. However, the Bobcat defense allowed the two a combined 23 points and forced them into nine turnovers.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday at St. Mary's (Md.) at 2:00 pm.
