Stotler’s Double-Double Powers Frostburg Over Wesley

Stotler recorded her first double-double since last year's CAC Tournament

Dover, Del. – Sophomore forward Sydney Stotler recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to power the Frostburg State women's basketball team to a 52-41 victory over Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opponent Wesley on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in the CAC, while Wesley drops to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in league play.
 
Stotler led the way for the Bobcats, eclipsing her second-career double-double and her first of the season while netting 14 points on 7-13 from with field. The other Bobcat in double figures was sophomore Victoria Diggs who added 10 points with 3 assists and five steals, while senior Adjowa Pinkrah added eight points and three rebounds.
 
Frostburg State dominated points in the paint, outscoring the Wolverines 24-12. Frostburg also outscored Wesley 15-5 on second chance points.
 
FSU won the rebounding battle on the day managing to grab 47 rebounds, with 15 coming from the offensive end and 32 on the defensive side, while Wesley snared 37 total rebounds.  
 
Frostburg jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first quarter behind a made free throw from Pinkrah at 6:52. The Bobcats pushed their lead to six (17-11) with 24 seconds left in the first quarter after a made jumper from first-year forward Marina Jones.
 
The Bobcats took their largest lead of the game at 6:07 in the second quarter as sophomore Victoria Yoder finished a layup pushing the lead to 13 at 26-13.
 
Despite Wesley shooting 40 percent from three (4-10) in the first half, the Bobcats managed a 10-point lead of 31-21 heading into intermission.
 
Wesley cut the lead to two, 34-32, behind an 11-3 spurt as Monshea Newsome-Murray hit a layup with 4:48 left in the third quarter. The Bobcats quickly turned things around as they ended the third quarter with their own 7-0 run after junior Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla netted a three-pointer with 38 second remaining to give FSU a 41-32 lead.
 
The Bobcats were able to maintain the lead in the fourth quarter, only allowing Wesley to score nine points in the final stanza, handing Frostburg the 52-41 victory.
 
In the second half, the Bobcats shot 37.5 percent (9-24) from the field, outshooting Wesley by 14 percent as the Wolverines only able to shot 23.5 percent on 8-34 from the floor.
 
Wesley was led by Stacey O'Neale who scored nine points in 19 minutes.
 
Frostburg State is back in action Wednesday as it hosts CAC opponent Southern Virginia at 4:00 p.m. at Bobcat Arena. The conference contest marks the beginning of a three-game homestand for the Bobcats.
