Men’s Soccer Drops Midweek Contest to Johns Hopkins

FROSTBURG, Md. – Achim Younker registered a hat trick for the visiting Johns Hopkins Blue Jays as they defeated Frostburg 3-0, Wednesday.

Frostburg mustered four shots on the night and tallied six corners, but could not solve a stout Hopkins defense.

Frostburg had a chance in the early going when sophomore Mitchell Love collected a loose ball just inside the 18 directly in front of the Hopkins net. His right-footed shot, however, was saved on a diving attempt from Bryan See at 7:54.

At the other end, the Blue Jays' Ben Bae had a good chance at 15:56, but his low shot bounced past the far post.

JHU finally broke through in the 19th minute when Achim Younker dribbled to his right and took a hard shot that found the right side of the net. Bobcat junior keeper Jackson Bicknell initially got his hands on the shot, but it trickled past him and into the net, giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 cushion.

JHU attempted seven of the eight shots for both teams in the opening half.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Hopkins' Connor Jacobs dribbled around a handful of Bobcat defenders, but Bicknell denied his left-footed attempt.

The Blue Jays made it 2-0 at 49:26 when Jacobs dribbled the ball to the end line and slid a pass towards the seven-yard box that found Younker, who knocked home a left-footed attempt into the right side of the net.

Frostburg sophomore Josh McRobie tried to put Frostburg on the board in the 55th minute. A Hopkins misdirected pass found McRobie just outside the 18-yard box but his shot from the corner was denied by an oncoming See.

The Blue Jays concluded the scoring in the 73rd minute when Younker notched his third goal of the evening on a counter-attack that put the visitors up 3-0.

Bicknell finished the contest with eight saves in 90:00 minutes of action.

Frostburg returns to action on Saturday, September 9 for a road contest against Rutgers-Camden at 4:30 p.m.
