DOVER, Del. – Senior Johnathan Lippitt notched the game-winning goal
as
the Frostburg State men's soccer team opened up Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play with a 2-1 victory over Wesley Saturday afternoon.
Frostburg (2-5-2, 1-0) fell behind early, but scored two unanswered goals to seal the victory.
Wesley (1-8, 0-1) struck first as Chimaobi Ikwuagwu received a pass from Matt Waldron and slipped the ball past freshman goalkeeper Juan Bofill for a 1-0 lead.
Frostburg netted the equalizer after a yellow card on Christian Chavez gave the Bobcats a penalty kick in the 19
th minute. Sophomore Josh McRobie stepped into the box and drilled the game-tying goal past Wesley keeper Kyle Springsteen.
Junior Christian Deynes had an opportunity on goal right before the intermission, but was denied as the teams went into the locker room tied at one.
McRobie had another penalty kick opportunity at the 59:32 mark, but Springsteen knocked away his shot and the game stayed knotted at one.
Lippitt found the back of the net for the first time this season in the 82
nd minute to give Frostburg a 2-1 lead it would not relinquish. Lippitt notched the game-winning goal after a failed clear attempt from Wesley.
Frostburg State finished the game with 19 shots, including six of on goal. McRobie led the way with five shots and three on goal.
The Bobcats are back in action as the host Shenandoah Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
