Baseball Splits With Mount Aloysius

FROSTBURG, Md. – After taking the field for the first time in over a week, the Frostburg State baseball team played to a doubleheader split Tuesday afternoon against Mount Aloysius at Bob Wells Field.

Frostburg (17-17) notched a 10-1 victory in game one, while Mt. Aloysius (13-24) earned an 8-6 win in the nightcap.

Game One
Junior starter Greg Schneider struckout a career-best 15 batters and surrendered just one earned run for his fourth win of the spring campaign. Schneider opened his impressive game-one outing by striking out the side in the first inning and he fittingly closed the contest by striking out all three batters in the top of the seventh.

He struckout two or more batters in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings and allowed two hits and a single run in the third frame.

Wednesday's 15 strikeouts mark the second-straight game in which Schneider has fanned 10 or more batters in a game and is the fourth time overall this season.

At the plate, the Bobcats scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning for a quick 2-0 lead. Mt. Aloysius answered with its only run in the top of the third before FSU plated three in the third, two in the fourth and three more in the sixth.

Schneider also helped his own cause by finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored at the plate. Senior JT Tipton and junior Matt Bougourd each drove in two runs, while junior Kyle Burger was 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Schneider led off the second with a single up the middle, junior Jessie Lee singled to center and both scored on a double from Tipton. FSU put the game out of reach in the third when Burger led off with a double to right center.

Senior Brad Garrant doubled home Burger for the frame's first score. Schneider later doubled home Garrant and then scored on a wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.

In the fourth, Burger singled home Tipton and Bougourd singled home senior Cody Harman as the hosts started to put the game out of reach.

The final three runs came in the sixth when Logan Corrigan doubled home Burger, Bougourd tripled home senior Micah Headd and Schneider singled home Bougourd.

Game Two
The Bobcats surrendered seven runs in the first two innings in an 8-6 loss to the Mounties.

Frostburg looked to close the deficit after scoring four of the game's final five runs, but the Mounties put the game out of reach with a key insurance run in the sixth.

Bougourd got the Bobcats on the board with an RBI-single that scored Tipton. Frostburg cut the score to 4-2 in the second inning when Tipton scored Headd with a sacrifice fly to center.

In the sixth, junior Colton Sivic plated junior Logan Corrigan with a double to left center to make the score 8-4. Later in the frame, sophomore Mike Centrella scored Sivic with a groundout to second, cutting the Mounties lead to 8-5.

Junior Daniel Richardson had an impressive performance in relief of junior starter Christian Rivera. Richardson tossed four innings, allowed one earned run and struckout four.

Freshman Alex Arone earned the win for the Mounties while Rodney Patterson notched his third save of the season.
