Bobcats Fall At #14 Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team had its season come to a close on Tuesday with a 16-5 loss at No. 14 ranked Mary Washington in the first round of the CAC Tournament.

The Bobcats hung tough in the first half and trailed by just one goal at intermission. However, the Eagles used a 10-0 scoring edge in the second half to advance to the CAC Tournament semifinals.
 
The loss caps the Bobcats' season at 6-11 overall on the season, while UMW improves to 14-4.
 
Sophomore Morgan Cavey led Frostburg with two goals, while freshman Nikki Hallikas, along with seniors Molly Hart and Emani Byrd each added one. Senior keeper Dylan Teitelbaum stopped 15 shots in the loss.
 
Hallikas opened the game's scoring and handed FSU a quick 1-0 cushion just two minutes into action with an unassisted goal. At 22:46, Cavey gave Frostburg a 2-1 advantage with another unassisted goal.
 
The Eagles answered with a run of four-straight scores for a 5-2 advantage with 13:10 to play. Cavey ended the run with her second of the game at 12:23 that trimmed FSU's deficit to 5-3.
 
Mary Washington's Kelsey Vincent scored at 10:27, but the Bobcats had one final first-half charge to pull within one at intermission.
 
Hart found the net at 9:12 and Byrd closed out the opening stanza with a goal with 1:44 to play as Frostburg trailed just 6-5.
 
The second half was a different story as the Eagles sealed the win with 10 goals on 20 shots. UMW also held Frostburg scoreless as the visitors attempted just six shots in the second half.
 
Mackenzie Maguire finished two goals and four assists, while Vincent and Holly Hudson each had three goals.
