Baseball Closes Weekend With Road Win Over Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Frostburg State baseball team ended the weekend with an 8-6 triumph over Gallaudet Sunday afternoon at Hoy Field.

Frostburg (11-10) scored eight runs on nine hits. Juniors Matt Bougourd and Patrick Bosley paced the Bobcats offensively with two RBI each.

Gallaudet (5-13) scored six runs on ten hits, but committed three errors on the day.

Frostburg scored at least one run in each of the first three innings of the ballgame. The Bobcats took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Bougourd scored senior JT Tipton with a single down the left field line.

The Bobcats doubled their edge to 2-0 in the top of the second, but the Bison came back in the bottom of the frame with a five-run outburst. Gallaudet scored its first run of the inning on a walk with the bases loaded, but continued the frame with a pair of two RBI singles, making the score 5-2.

Not to be outdone, the Bobcats countered with a five-run inning in the top of the third. Bougourd hit a leadoff home run, his third of the season, to pull the Bobcats to within 5-3. Bosley laced a double to left center, scoring senior Brad Garrant and junior Matt Jeffery, to tie the game at five. The Bobcats took a 6-5 lead after junior Colton Sivic brought home Bosley with an RBI single to center. The final run of the inning came by way of a dropped fly ball that allowed Sivic to score and give the Bobcats a 7-5 edge.

Each team added one more run in the sixth inning and the Bobcats held on for the 8-6 victory. Junior Garrett Wiles (2-0) earned the win, allowing one earned run with two strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Senior Cody Harman closed the game with his second save of the season. After allowing a single to the first batter he faced, Harman closed the bottom of the ninth with a double play and a lineout to end the game.

The Bobcats will return home to Bob Wells Field on Tuesday, March 28 for a matchup with Marietta. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
