Women’s Lacrosse Nets Convincing Win Over Wesley

DOVER, Del. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and did not look back in a 24-8 victory over Wesley in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play Saturday afternoon at Miller Stadium.
 
Frostburg (4-4, 1-0) notched its highest scoring output in over 17 years with 24 goals. The last time the Bobcats scored 24 goals in a game was back in 2000 against Hood.   
 
Frostburg held a decisive edge in shots, 40-19, and in draw controls, 22-12. Freshman Nikki Hallikas paced the Bobcats with six goals, four assists and 12 shots.
 
Senior Megan Hart and sophomore Jessica Hartley finished the day with two assists each.
 
Frostburg stormed out of the gate with five goals in the first six minutes of the game. The Bobcats had two goals from Hallikas and single goals from senior Emani Byrd, junior Courtney Ridenour and sophomore Morgan Cavey in the scoring stretch.
 
After Wesley notched its first goal, the Bobcats responded with four straight goals to take a 9-1 lead. Cavey, Hallikas and Hart all notched goals for the Bobcats.
 
Wesley scored two goals before the half to cut the Bobcat lead to 10-4 at the break.
 
Frostburg began the second half with three-straight unassisted tallies to take a 13-4 lead. Ridenour scored two and Hallikas added the third Bobcat goal.
 
Frostburg broke open the game with nine-straight second half goals to take a 24-7 lead. Wesley tallied the final marker of the contest for the 24-8 final.
 
Senior goalie Dylan Teitlebaum earned the win with eight saves in 38 minutes of action.
 
Frostburg will return to the field on Monday, March 20 against Clarkson at 12:30 p.m.
