Women’s Basketball Falls in First Round of CAC Tournament

YORK, Pa. – Junior guard Sharyce Warren dropped a game-high 27 points, but the Frostburg State women's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 72-62 loss to York (Pa.) in the first round of the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament, Tuesday.  
 
Frostburg (12-14) made its first appearance in the CAC Tournament since the 2012-13 school year, and finished the night 24-of-73 (32.9%) from the field. York (18-8) shot 28-of-68 (41.2%) from the floor.
 
Warren provided the Bobcats a big spark off the bench, with 13 points in the first half and 14 in the second. She ended the night with eight rebounds (two offensive), four assists and four steals.
 
Freshman forward Sydney Stotler notched a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Senior guard Kache Fields finished with 10 points, shooting an efficient 5-of-10 (50%) from the field.
 
The duo of Fields and Stotler also led the way in minutes played for the Bobcats, logging 39 minutes apiece.
 
York (Pa.) started the game on a 7-0 run before junior guard Adjowa Pinkrah converted a three to give the Bobcats their first points of the night.
 
Warren drilled a three with 5:39 remaining in the first quarter and Fields hit a jump shot just over a minute later to cut the Spartan lead to two points.
 
York (Pa.) ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run and led 26-13 going into the second.
 
Warren tallied six of the 12 Frostburg points scored in the second quarter, as the Bobcats went into the locker room trailing 42-25 at the half.
 
The Bobcats began the second half with a 7-3 run. Fields, freshman Amanda Emory and Stotler all scoring during the run. After the teams traded baskets for much of the quarter, freshman Victoria Yoder scored eight of the final 10 points in the third to bring the Bobcat deficit to ten (59-49).
 
A jump shot and three from Warren followed by a layup from Stotler capped a 7-0 run for the Bobcats to begin the fourth quarter. Warren made back-to-back shots again at the 7:39 and 6:47 mark to make the score 63-60.
 
Fields converted a layup to pull Frostburg within one, 63-62, with 5:59 remaining in the game. The Bobcats were held scoreless for the remainder of the game, while the Spartans added nine points for the 72-62 final.
