Middletown, Pa. – Sophomore guard Victoria Diggs scored a game-high 23 points and junior guard Sharyce Warren added 17 points as the Frostburg State women's basketball team won a 66-51 road decision against Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play.
Frostburg, winners of three-straight games, improves to 9-11 overall behind a 7-6 mark in CAC play. Penn State Harrisburg falls to 4-16 and 2-11 in conference play.
Frostburg finished 22-of-57 (38.6%) from the floor and Penn State Harrisburg finished 18-of-49 (36.7%) from the field. The Bobcats finished 7-of-17 (41.2%) from three-point range on the night.
Diggs went 7-of-15 (46.6%) from the field, 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the foul line and 4-of-6 (66.7%) from three-point range. Warren ended the night 5-of-13 (38.4) from the field, 4-of-4 (100%) and 3-of-8 (37.5) from three-point range.
The Bobcats, who never trailed in the contest, had 18 steals compared to the Lions' nine and finished with a 12-point edge in points off turnovers (31-19).
Senior guard Kache Fields was the third Frostburg player in double figures with 10 points. Fields and freshman Sydney Stotler led the Bobcats with nine rebounds each, helping the team hold a 42-31 advantage on the boards.
Frostburg outscored Penn State Harrisburg 22-11 in the first quarter and jumped out to a 14-2 lead to begin the game.
The Bobcats extended their lead to 29-11 with seven-straight points to open up the second quarter. Warren made a layup, Diggs hit a three-pointer and sunk two foul shots in the 7-0 scoring run. Diggs converted another three with just two seconds showing on the first half clock to put the Bobcats up 39-27 at the half.
Freshman forward Amanda Emory made two consecutive layups to begin the third quarter and put the Bobcats up 43-27. Penn State Harrisburg scored the final eight points of the third quarter and trimmed the Bobcat lead to 47-39.
Diggs converted another three-pointer with 4:47 remaining to put the Bobcats up 57-45. Diggs, Warren and Fields all made foul shots in the final 1:33 of the game to seal the 66-51 victory.
Jada Pettis led the way with 11 points for the Lions and Shanique Mattis finished 10 points.
Frostburg will return home on Saturday, February 4 against Mary Washington at 1:00 p.m.
