FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomores Amanda Emory and Victoria Diggs scored 16 points each, but it wasn't enough as the Frostburg State women's basketball team fell to Waynesburg, 64-61, at the buzzer Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.
Mackenna Drazich took a feed from Rachel Eng and drilled a straightaway three as time expired to seal the victory for Waynesburg (7-4), which shot 43.1% from the floor and 46.7% from beyond the arc.
Frostburg (6-5) shot 39.7% (25-of-63) from the floor and just 17.6% (3-of-17) from three-point range. The Bobcats trailed 38-24 at the half but outscored the Yellow Jackets 37-27 in the second half.
Frostburg had 19 assists on 25 baskets and finished with five blocks and eight steals as a team.
Diggs stuffed the stat sheet for Frostburg with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals in 36 minutes. It was her ninth double-digit scoring performance this season.
Meanwhile, Emory poured in a season-high 16 points with 12 coming in the second half. The Halethorpe, Md. native snared six rebounds with three assists, two blocks and one steal in 33 minutes.
Sophomore Victoria Yoder added seven points off the bench, while sophomore Sydney Stotler and senior Adjowa Pinkrah had six points each.
Waynesburg jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as the Bobcats trailed 17-13 following the first quarter. A Pinkrah layup at 8:42 in the second brought the Frostburg deficit to just four (19-15), but the visitors responded and took a 38-24 lead heading into the half.
The Bobcats closed the third quarter with a 7-0 scoring spurt and trailed 50-42 entering the fourth quarter. Emory helped make the deficit just three (51-48) with two foul shots and a layup while Diggs converted a three to make the score 58-57 Waynesburg with two minutes remaining in the game.
Waynesburg did not trail throughout the entire game, but Frostburg tied the contest on four separate occasions. After trailing by as many as 17 points in the third quarter, Frostburg clawed back to tie the game at 59 on a Diggs free throw with just 34 seconds remaining.
Emory took a pass from junior Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla and tied the game at 61 with less than one second remaining. Following a timeout that advanced the ball, Waynesburg connected on its second buzzer-beater of the season.
Addy Knetzer battled through foul trouble to finish with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Mackenna Drazich dialed up six three-pointers and led all scorers with 21 points, including the game-winner.
Frostburg returns to the court and Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play on Wednesday, January 3 when it hosts Marymount (Va.) at Bobcat Arena.
