FROSTBURG, Md. – The No. 2 seeded Frostburg State women's soccer team was defeated by No. 1 seeded Grove City 1-0, Sunday afternoon, in the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinal game.
The loss ends the 2017 season for the Bobcats, who finished with a 10-9-2 overall record.
Despite not being able to muster a goal, Frostburg outshot Grove City 11-10. Grove City had the advantage in corner kicks with seven, while the Bobcats only had three.
Junior Danielle Ferris led Frostburg in shots generating three for the game, while junior goalkeeper Emily Faust recorded four saves for the day.
The Bobcats' first scoring opportunity came at 26:29 as senior Lia Kelly crossed the ball in the box to Ferris, who hit a shot that forced Grove City's goalkeeper Trishae Winters off the line.
Four minutes later, sophomore Brooke Shehade, who led the Bobcats in goals scored this season with 10, ripped a shot from 25 yards out that forced Winters to stretch out and make a play.
Grove City took a 1-0 lead at 31:34 off a corner kick from Megan Van Kirk who connected with Lindsay Hutton for a header that found the back of the net.
Frostburg trailed 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, the Bobcats best chance to tie the game came at 71:10 as junior Anais Ventura beamed a shot from over 20 yards out that took a leaping save from Winters to keep it out of the goal.
