Women’s Soccer Earns Second Seed

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team capped its final regular season game with a 1-0 victory over Southern Virginia, Wednesday, October 26th and claimed the second-seed in the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.

With the second-seed, the Bobcats earn a first-round bye and will host the winner of Penn State Harrisburg and Salisbury on Wednesday, October 26.
Frostburg State heads into the CAC Tournament with a league record of 7-1-1, while 8-7-2 overall. The Bobcats finished the year winning seven of their last eight games outscoring their opponents 12-5.

Sophomore forward Brooke Shehade paces the Bobcats with 23 points, scoring ten goals and three assists. Shehade led the conference with eight goals and 19 points in nine games against CAC opponents. Overall, Shehade ranks fourth in points and goals in the conference and has scored seven goals in her last five games.

Other offensive threats for the Bobcats include junior forwards Danielle Ferris and Hailey Turney. Ferris ranks second on the team with nine points after registering three goals and three assists in the regular season. Turney's seven points are a result of two goals and three assists. The Bobcats' 17 assists dished out by ten different players ranks third in the CAC.

In goal, junior Emily Faust has made 44 saves while posting a 0.89 goals against average which ranks third in the conference and has totaled five shutouts. In eight starts in CAC play, Faust has allowed five goals, with four-consecutive shutouts to close the regular season.

The Bobcats defeated both Penn State Harrisburg and Salisbury during regular season play. The Bobcats won at Penn State Harrisburg 2-0 on October 18, and topped Salisbury 1-0 on Senior Day.

Reigning conference champions No. 8 Christopher Newport secured the top seed and home-field advantage throughout the CAC Tournament by navigating its way to a second-consecutive undefeated CAC campaign with a mark of 9-0. The Captains have yet to be defeated this season, as their overall record stands at 16-0-1. For the second-straight season, Frostburg lays claim to the second seed and a first round bye with a CAC mark of 7-1-1.

Salisbury is the third seed at 7-2 in CAC play, 9-9 overall. Fourth through sixth, all with four wins are St. Mary's (4-3-2, 5-8-4), Mary Washington (4-4-1, 8-9-1) and Penn State Harrisburg (4-5, 11-7).

Salisbury hosts Penn State Harrisburg, with the winner traveling to Bobcat Stadium next Wednesday. The victor of St. Mary's and Mary Washington will take on Christopher Newport in the CAC Semifinals.

The winner of the 2017 CAC Tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
